4 Things You Need To Know (21/11/17)

Welcome to our daily update, where we summarise the key talking points from the last 24 hours.

1. Budget preview

Daniel Harrison, Senior Partner at True Potential Investor, previews the key talking points around the November 22 Autumn Budget. Watch the video.

2. Mugabe

Robert Mugabe has resigned as President of Zimbabwe. Jacob Mudenda, the Zimbabwean Parliament speaker, has said the decision was voluntary and had been made to allow for a smooth transition of power.

Impeachment proceeding had already got underway, amid anger over Mugabe’s plan to have his wife succeed him as leader.

The reaction of the Zimbabwean people has been one of celebration, as hopes are raised that years of Mugabe’s brutality and economic hardship could be coming to an end.

3. Brexit

Arlene Foster, the leader of Northern Ireland’s DUP, has warned Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar that he “should know better” than to “play around with” Northern Ireland.

The comments came after Foster met Theresa May at Downing Street. The Irish government says that a hard border with Northern Ireland should be off the table, which may mean Northern Ireland having to stay in the EU customs union.

4. Google to “derank” RT

Google will “derank” RT news stories, in response to allegations that Vladimir Putin’s government has interfered in elections.

RT, also known as Russia Today, has been called a “propaganda machine” by the CIA. However, the issue of censorship and google controlling what is seen has caused controversy.
