4 Things You Need To Know (23/8/17)

Welcome to our daily update, where we summarise the key talking points from the last 24 hours.

1. Theresa May on Brexit

Theresa May has said the European Court of Justice will have no jurisdiction in the UK following Brexit.

“What we will be able to do is to make our own laws,” she said during a visit to Surrey. “Parliament will make our laws, it is British judges who will interpret those laws and it will be the British Supreme Court that will be the ultimate arbiter of those laws. 2. Identity fraud at “epidemic levels”

Identity fraud is at “epidemic levels”, the fraud prevention serice Cifas has warned. Almost 500 cases a day are reported, with 89,000 cases in the first six months of 2017. That’s up 5% on the same time last year.

3. Clinton calls Trump a “Creep”

Hillary Clinton has lashed out at Donald Trump in an excerpt from her latest memoir.

She claims he invaded her personal space in last year’s Presidential debate, and reveals she wanted to say “Back up you creep” as her “skin crawled.”

4. Rooney

Wayne Rooney has retired from international football, following talks with England manager Gareth Southgate.

The 31 year old had been asked by Southgate to continue his international career, but the striker had already made his mind up on international retirement. “Leaving Manchester United was a tough call but I know I made the right decision in coming home to Everton. Now I want to focus all my energies on helping them be successful,” he said in a statement
