4 Things You Need To Know (2/8/17)

Welcome to our daily update, where we summarise the key talking points from the last 24 hours.

1. Dow Jones breaks record

The Dow Jones Industrial Average has gone past 22,000 points for the first time in its history.

The collection of 30 major American stocks was lifted by a rise in Apple shares, and is up 11% since the start of the year.

2. Trump approves Russia sanctions

US sanctions against Russia have been signed off by President Donald Trump, however, he has opted to attach a statement calling the Act “deeply flawed.”

The Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act also imposed measures against Iran and North Korea.

In retaliation, Russia has expelled 755 people from their American embassies.

The sanctions are in place due to alleged Russian meddling in last year’s Presidential election.

3. Prince Philip

The Duke Of Edinburgh has carried out his final public engagement on behalf of the Royal Family, overseeing a parade to mark the finale of a charity endurance challenge.

The 96 year old announced his retirement back in May, but has suggested he could still decide to accompany The Queen to occasional events.

4. Neymar transfer record

Barcelona forward Neymar looks close to completing a record breaking transfer to Paris St Germain.

It is believed that the French club are ready to meet his £198 million release clause, which would eclipse the previous football transfer record of £89.3 million, which Manchester United paid to bring Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.
