1. NHS England suffers large scale cyber attack
NHS services across England have been impacted by a large scale cyber attack, with phone and IT systems reportedly shutting down.
Operations have been cancelled, and doctors are having to use pen and paper.
Trusts and Hospitals affected include London, Blackburn, Nottingham, Cumbria, Derbyshire and Hertfordshire.
2. Donald Trump’s warning to James Comey
Donald Trump has lashed out at former FBI Director James Comey, tweeting “James Comey better hope that there are no “tapes” of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!’
Trump also warned that it could be an idea to cancel all future press briefings.
The President maintains Comey told him he wasn’t under investigation. The FBI inquiry into Russian interference in last year’s US election is ongoing.
In better news for Trump, a new trade deal between the US and China has been announced.
3. Liberal Democrats Pledge To Legalise Cannabis
The Liberal Democrats’ election manifesto will legalise cannabis, allowing it to be sold on the high street to people over 18.
An estimated £1 billion would be raised from tax, which would then be reinvested into education and drug treatment programmes.
4. Jeremy Corbyn rejects pacifist label
Jeremy Corbyn has rejected the idea he is a pacifist, stating he would “do everything necessary to protect the safety and security of our people and our country.”
However, he was keen to press that military action is a last resort and only permissible under international law.
The Labour leader is the former chairman of the Stop The War coalition. The Conservatives have accused him of being soft on defence issues.
5. Theresa May targeting Labour voters
The Prime Minister was in the North East today, targeting Labour voters and warning that Jeremy Corbyn’s party has “deserted” working class voters
“We respect that parents and grandparents taught their children and grandchildren that Labour was a party that shared their values and stood up for their community,” she said. “But across the country today, traditional Labour supporters are increasingly looking at what Jeremy Corbyn believes in and are appalled.”
