Justine Greening MP visits True Potential Investor

Please note this blog post was published over 12 months ago and so may not include the most up-to-date information, for example where regulation around investing has changed.

We were delighted to welcome Justine Greening MP to our True Potential Investor Head Office last week.

The former Education Secretary was in the North East as part of her national Social Mobility Pledge tour. She launched the Social Mobility Pledge alongside the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility, which was founded by our Managing Partner David Harrison.

David welcomed Justine to our office, and was keen to share with her how social mobility has benefited our business. He introduced her to several of our apprentices, including IT support worker Kieran Howe, and Tahmina Ali from our DMO team. Justine was interested to hear their stories, and Tahmina explained how True Potential had benefited her with a much greater understanding of the business world.

We were one of the first businesses to sign the Social Mobility Pledge, and other sign-ups have included BT and Adidas. Being a Social Mobility Pledge accredited employer means your commitment to accessing and progressing talent from all backgrounds, and highlights your work towards improving social mobility. The aim of the Social Mobility Pledge is to encourage business to play their crucial role in boosting social mobility in the UK and highlight which businesses and employers are going the extra mile. At True Potential Investor we’ve always been committed to giving young people opportunities to progress in our business.

Speaking to The Chronicle, David Harrison said “Social mobility is really about having opportunities to get on and be at your best. At True Potential we have a truly diverse workforce because we employ on merit irrespective of background. I really believe what matters is where you are going not where you came from. That’s why I was so pleased to partner with Justine and create the Social Mobility Pledge and why True Potential has signed up to it.”

Reflecting on her visit to True Potential Investor, Justine tweeted “Great day in the North East today visiting Northumberland, Newcastle and Sunderland talking about the difference that improving Social Mobility really makes to people’s lives.”
