Meet Our Team: Carl Leishman

Carl Leishman is the head of training and new adviser support at True Potential.

Here he tells us about his role in the company, his advice to first time investors, and what makes our company special.

How did you get started in the industry?

Having worked in banking for just over 7 years, I was made redundant at the worst possible time in 2008. This lead me into a relatively dead end job, within a call centre, due to the nature of the job market within the finance industry.

After a few opportunities popped up, but not really in the area I wanted to focus in, I found out about True Potential looking to recruit into the training team. I jumped at the chance to join a relatively young company (4 years old at that stage) which, if you’ll forgive the pun, had massive potential.

Tell us about your area of expertise?

My specialisation has always been talking and systems, so training is obviously a role very well suited to me.

I pride myself on being able to break things down to a level that anybody can understand, whilst also identifying what it is that motivates an individual. This helps enormously when dealing with such a wide range of people, from large company directors, admin staff working 1 day a week and on the odd occasion end clients.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

My greatest source of pride is knowing that at the start of a course I can take a novice on our systems and by the end of the week I’ve given somebody the tools to go out and get the best possible outcomes for their clients.

What makes the company special?

Always putting the client first. Whether it be through an adviser, the client portal or through TP Investor, we always strive to ensure the client is informed of not only where they are but more importantly how they can get to where they want to be.

What are the most important things to consider for first time investors?

For me it’s about taking the appropriate amount of risk and being informed about what the potential results are of not taking enough risk.

What are you most excited about in regard to the future of the company?

What’s going to be the next big thing? From a back office point of view we’ve revolutionised the Financial Services industry. From an investments point of view we’ve revolutionised how clients make micro payments into their investments and pensions. We’ve also been at the forefront of identifying client goals with tools like the goal based submission process, True Potential One and the goal based system within TP Investor.

I can’t wait to see what and how we revolutionise next.
