Meet Our Team – Dianne Pattison Interview

Dianne Pattison joined True Potential as a Developer in 2008.  She was made Operations Manager for True Potential Wealth Management in 2013, and in June 2015 returned to Development to manage the team as the Digital Delivery Manager.

As one of our most experienced and esteemed colleagues, Dianne offers a fantastic insight into what has made True Potential a success story.

How did you get started in the industry?

I was bored in my role in the Civil Service and I had a friend who worked for Positive Solutions. She told me about a new company called True Potential and that it was headed up by the team who made Positive Solutions into the award winning company that it was.

She said they were looking for developers/technical staff and asked if I was interested – yes, yes I was!

True Potential was in its infancy back then, only Six months old – I applied (was successful) and here I am, Nine years later.

Tell us about your area of expertise?

Being the Digital Delivery Manager means I am responsible for our In-House Development team. This team produce a range of systems from simple admin processing, to award winning adviser/client technologies.

It means I have to be agile and very well organised. I like to get into the nitty gritty of things. I like to understand how something happens, why it happens, and what happens next.

I have Nine years of True Potential system knowledge and I like to think I can translate a technical delivery into layman’s terms, allowing people to get the most out of what we deliver.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Getting it right. The Senior Partners, areas of the business, advisers, clients, all come to us with a wish list. There’s nothing better than seeing something become a reality that started out as a single sentence or something someone has drawn on a wall (don’t worry, we have fancy walls we can wipe clean!).

What makes the company special?

We strive to be the best. It simply never ends. No matter what we win, what we do, whether we’re loved or hated, whether it’s a good day or a bad one, we just keep pushing forwards.

What are the most important things to consider for first time investors?

Consider what you want to do, when you want to do it by, and take control.

Take a look at your finances and ask yourself ‘why not?’, why not invest? There’s nothing you can do these days without being told about the risks – your capital is at risk, value can go down as well as up (don’t take the stabilisers off too soon you might fall, don’t climb that tree you might fall – you see where I am going here)…. but what about the bonuses? What about the ability to buy your first home when you want it? What about the handbags you didn’t think you could afford (or the cars)? Why not? Why not invest? Why not take control?

There’s always an element of risk versus reward, but as long as you’re sensible and don’t sacrifice a good bill of financial health, as long as you’re realistic with your aims, it is something to think about.

What are you most excited about in regard to the future of the company?

Where we end up. We started off as a little known software company, and now we’re a well-respected, highly regarded fintech firm. That in itself is a big achievement in today’s technological world.

Who knows where we’ll be in the next Nine years. I just know I want to be part of it. And that for me is what makes it exciting.
