Meet Our Team – Jodie McGrath-Hayes
Please note this blog post was published over 12 months ago and so may not include the most up-to-date information, for example where regulation around investing has changed.

Jodie McGrath-Hayes is an Investment Analyst at True Potential. She has also established herself as one of our talented presenters on the True Potential Investor YouTube channel.
If you have been subscribing to our channel, you’ll already know that Jodie has great knowledge and enthusiasm. Here she tells us about how she started in the business, what a typical day looks like, and her hopes for the future.
Tell us about yourself?
I’m from a small (and very beautiful) seaside town on the north coast of Northern Ireland called Ballycastle. Five years ago, I moved to Newcastle to attend University and in search of new challenges and experiences.
On a Saturday night you’ll likely find me in a karaoke bar. When I’m not working on my vocals I like to keep active – I’ll either hit the gym, or grab my golf clubs and a mate and head to the driving range, or go for a run in Heaton Park and Jesmond Dene.
Fun fact: I was the first female in the history of my high school to achieve the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
How did you get started in the industry?
I graduated from Northumbria University with a degree in Finance and Investment Management in 2015.
I actually had my third and final interview for True Potential the day after gradation! It all began months prior to this at a University careers fair, the purple logo catching my eye, I decided to go and have a chat with one of the representatives from the company. After that conversation, I knew True Potential was where I wanted to work.
When I first started in September 2015 I was involved in the back-testing for the True Potential Portfolios (launched October 2015). I feel privileged to have been involved in this fantastic proposition from the very beginning and at the very start of my career.
Tell us about your area of business and typical day?
My typical day starts off with a strong coffee! I’m one of the Investment Analysts within the Investment Management team, but have recently moved over to the Fund Governance (FG) side of things. The idea behind this is so I can share my first-hand knowledge of the analytical side with FG, and it has given me the opportunity to branch out and learn more about what goes on behind the scenes.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Being involved in fund launches – liaising with all parties involved and seeing a project from start to finish gives you a real sense of achievement.
Also, my degree provided the opportunity to become trained in Bloomberg, and being able to put my Bloomberg skills to good use is an aspect of the job that I really enjoy. Friends from my course haven’t had the opportunity to continue using Bloomberg in their jobs so I consider myself quite fortunate in that aspect.
The marketing videos are fun too!
What makes the company special?
Easy – the people.
It’s a cliché, but like most people in full-time employment, I spend more time with my team than my family or friends, so I believe that being surrounded by friendly and supportive colleagues is important.
In addition, and I’m sure advisers will agree with me here, when you walk into the office one of the most apparent things is how positive and welcoming the atmosphere is (yes, even on a Monday morning!).
What are you most excited about in regard to the future of the company?
It’s true that no one knows exactly what the future holds, and this excites me. The company has seen immense growth over the past couple of years and long may it continue!
