Meet the True Potential Investor Team: Luke McGrath

Please note this blog post was published over 12 months ago and so may not include the most up-to-date information, for example where regulation around investing has changed.

Luke McGrath is team leader of the tpinvestor.com project, and is head of marketing at True Potential Investor.

Tell us about your role in the re-development of tpinvestor.com?

I lead the project to launch our new version of True Potential Investor. That meant making sure the branding, design and development were all working together and being responsible for delivering on time.

I also re-trained our support team on the new messaging, checkout process and our great new live video chat service.

What makes True Potential Investor innovative?

True Potential Investor is innovative because it offers amazing diversification and the expertise of global investment brands direct to the UK market.

Through our relationships with the likes of Allianz, UBS, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and many more we have access to over 9,000 investment experts around the world.

We use that expertise when we manage clients’ money – our in-house investment makes investment decisions for clients as part of our service at no charge for discretionary fund management – aiming to maximise returns and reduce risk.

I don’t believe anyone else is offering that level of diversification at no extra charge direct to UK clients.

What are you most proud of with the new project?

With the new True Potential Investor, I’m most proud of the way we’ve taken an idea that’s often seen as complicated – investing in stocks and shares – and explained it clearly.

We believe that the biggest risk to reaching your goals is doing nothing, which is why we’ve tried to explain the benefits of global diversification and our approach in terms that make it accessible.

I hope the site convinces people to think twice before accepting their bank’s savings rate and learn a little more about the benefits of investing.

What are the most important things to consider for first time investors?

I made my first ever investment when I joined True Potential Investor, so I remember what it’s like being a first-timer.

It’s important to understand what happens to your money when you invest and what’s on offer. For example, will your money be invested mainly in the UK or will it be spread wider to include the US, Europe, Asia and Emerging Markets?

Make sure the company your using is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority – you can search the FCA website to verify this.

Ask who will be looking after your money and what are their credentials? These should be clear from the company’s website but don’t be afraid to dig deeper.

I’d also recommend speaking to the staff before investing, I think you tell a lot about a company by the way you’re treated on the phone. That’s why we’re open 8am – 8pm weekdays and offer live video chat as well as a freephone number.

What are you most excited about for the future of True Potential Investor?

The great thing about working on True Potential Investor is we never have a quiet day.

At the moment we’re working on a new version of our online account, looking to improve the experience even further for current clients.

We’re also launching blockchain technology later this year, an exciting development for us, as well as a bot that will be able to help customers outside of our opening hours.
