True Potential Sponsors Policy North Event Featuring Chancellor Philip Hammond

We were proud to sponsor and attend an inspiring and informative Policy North event at the Imperial War Museum in London on April 26.
The annual dinner featured Chancellor Philip Hammond, and guest speaker Lance Sergeant Johnson Beharry VC. It was an exceptional evening, bringing together entrepreneurs and business leaders to discuss how the north of England and the wider UK can best seize the opportunities of becoming a new global Britain.
“The gap between our capital city and our other cities and regions is one of the defining features of the UK economy,” Philip Hammond told the Policy North website. “By working with businesses from across the country and the regions, in particular by promoting our regional cities, we can at last start to address the problem.”
The north of England has a successful history of driving national growth. If it were a country, it would have the same size economy as Belgium. Indeed, the north of England accounts for 19% of total UK output.
As part of the event at the Imperial War Museum, guests discussed how the United Kingdom can emerge from the current period of change in an even stronger way. We talked about the UK’s future as a global trading nation, how it will become the home of the pioneers and innovators of tomorrow.
Another highlight of the event was guest speaker Lance Sergeant Johnson Beharry VC. It was inspiring to hear his story of heroism and resilience. He was awarded the Victoria Cross in 2005, the highest British military recognition, following his bravery during service in Iraq.
The Lance Sergeant saved members of his unit from ambushes on two occasions, putting himself in the way of harm to help his fellow soldiers. Under direct fire from the enemy, he did not falter. Unfortunately, his selflessness resulted in severe injuries to his face and brain. However, he has showed great spirit and resilience in dealing with these injuries, and he became the first living Victoria Cross recipient in thirty years.
